01What the SAP MB52 transaction does

The SAP MB52 transaction displays a stock overview for materials across plants and storage locations. It is commonly used to review current inventory quantities by material, valuation area, storage location, batch, and stock category.

MB52 is a reporting transaction for inventory visibility. It does not post a goods movement or change stock. Use it when warehouse, purchasing, production, or inventory teams need a structured view of available stock at a specific point in time.

02How to run MB52

1. Open SAP GUI and enter MB52 in the command field.
2. Enter at least one useful selection, such as a material, plant, storage location, or material group.

03How to interpret MB52 results

The result list breaks stock down according to the selected organizational and material criteria. Depending on the data and selection, useful fields include material, material description, plant, storage location, batch, base unit of measure, and stock quantities.

Pay attention to the stock category shown for each line. Unrestricted-use stock, quality inspection stock, blocked stock, and other special-stock categories have different operational meanings and should not be combined when deciding whether material is immediately available.

When the same material appears on several rows, compare the plant, storage location, batch, and stock category before adding quantities. Separate rows often represent valid inventory distinctions rather than duplicate records.

MB52 helps answer practical questions such as:

• Which materials are stored at a plant or storage location?
• How much unrestricted-use stock is available?

05MB52 troubleshooting checklist

If MB52 returns no rows, check the material number, plant, storage location, batch, and selection dates or status-related restrictions used on the selection screen. Remove one filter at a time to identify which criterion excludes the expected stock.

If the displayed quantity seems incorrect, verify the unit of measure and compare the plant and storage location on each row. Then review recent goods movements, posting dates, reversals, and batch information in the relevant logistics transactions.

If a user cannot execute MB52 or cannot see expected data, have an administrator check the user’s assigned permissions and organizational restrictions. Access to the transaction alone does not guarantee visibility of every plant or storage location.

For large data sets, use focused selections and save a variant that reflects the warehouse’s normal reporting needs. Export results only after confirming that the selected organizational levels and stock categories match the business question.
