How to Review Material Coverage in SAP S/4HANA Cloud
Use Monitor Material Coverage to inspect material coverage in net and individual planning segments, investigate exceptions, and follow up on MRP results.
The Monitor Material Coverage app (F2101A) helps planners inspect coverage situations in net and individual planning segments. Use it to focus a review on a material and its planning context, then follow up on the relevant MRP information. The instructions here follow the SAP Help content identified as 2608 Latest; check the app and prerequisites available in your own Public Edition scope.
Prepare a focused coverage review
Before opening the app, define the materials, planning area, and period you need to review. A focused scope makes it easier to distinguish a genuine supply concern from a result that falls outside the selection you intended to inspect.
Keep the planning segment in view throughout the review. Coverage presented for net and individual planning segments represents different planning contexts, so record which context you used when sharing findings or comparing results.
Inspect material coverage
Open Monitor Material Coverage and select the relevant scope using the filters available to your role. Start with the material or group of materials under review, then inspect the displayed coverage situations. Narrow the selection if the result set is too broad to investigate efficiently.
Review each relevant material together with its segment context and displayed planning information. Use the result to identify where follow-up is needed; confirm the underlying planning situation before changing supply or demand data.
When the review indicates a shortage or a time-sensitive requirement, continue with monitoring MRP shortages to investigate the shortage situation. This keeps coverage review focused on identification while giving the shortage investigation its own workflow.
Compare net and individual segments
Use the net or individual planning segment that matches the question being investigated. If a material appears in more than one context, inspect the applicable segment rather than assuming that one result describes every planning situation for that material.
For operational handover, capture the material, planning segment, relevant coverage finding, and any follow-up owner. This makes later comparisons more useful, particularly when a planner reviews a different segment or a later planning result.
Follow up on the MRP result
The app supports material-level navigation to an MRP run when the displayed scope and prerequisites allow it. Use that navigation to examine the related planning information, then decide whether a planned order or another planning element requires attention.
If a planned order is the next action, use managing planned orders for the follow-up process. Treat the coverage finding as an operational signal to investigate, and validate the planning details before making changes.
Troubleshoot unexpected results
If the expected material is missing, first check the selected filters and planning segment. Confirm that the material belongs in the scope you selected and that the result set is not narrowed beyond the intended review.
If a coverage situation looks unexpected, compare the segment context and planning information shown for the material. Then check whether the relevant MRP run is available and whether the app's displayed prerequisites are met before using material-level navigation. Keep the exact selection and finding in your handover so another planner can reproduce the review.
Use a repeatable review record
For recurring operations, record the review date, selection scope, segment, material, finding, and follow-up decision. Reusing the same review structure helps teams compare results consistently and route shortage investigation or planned-order work to the appropriate owner.
